When Tyler hit a tree after losing control of her car while driving in rural Arkansas late at night, she says her relief at seeing the police quickly turned to fear. She says they pulled her onto the ground, then tased, and handcuffed, her after she was slow to respond to their requests to exit the vehicle.

Tyler was arrested and charged with one count each of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and obstructing governmental operations, plus two counts of battery of a police officer in the second degree. Those charges were later dropped.

“When they approached her vehicle, they didn’t see any weapons, so why did they escalate it to a criminal offense?” asks Civil Rights attorney Benjamin Taylor . “They needed to calm down, assess the situation, and get her proper medical treatment.”

Tyler’s mother, Talisha, claims that police mistreated her daughter because she is Black. She says that when she heard about Tyler’s ordeal, she obtained bodycam footage of the incident and posted it to social media. How did the police respond? Watch the video above to find out.
